Food Diaries: Where and What we ate in Cape Town

Food

Food plays a very big role in my life … Hence the blog! So whenever I have a trip planned somewhere, I also plan where and what I’m going to eat. And when I go to Cape Town, the same applies. The food scene in Cape Town is amazing – there are so many places to choose from all serving up absolutely delicious food. As much as I love trying new things though, I also have my favourites that I just have to visit when I’m in town. In this blog post, I thought I would put together a list of where and what we ate. I’ll also tell you if it was our first time visiting and if I’m adding it to my favourites list.

Where: The Mussel Monger & Oyster Bar

Location: Mojo Market, Sea Point

What: Mussels in a garlic and herb sauce with vetkoek. Yes, vetkoek!

Thoughts: Definitely the best mussels I have had in a while! The flavour is amazing, the mussels are so meaty and the best part – the food is so fresh! I also love that the mussels are served with vetkoek, instead of your normal bread roll. The vetkoek are perfect for soaking up all the sauce!

First time: Yes

Where: Cheyne’s

Location: Main Rd, Scott Estate, Hout Bay

What: Cheyne’s is a pacific rim dining restaurant with a menu that is always changing. The food is perhaps Asian with a twist (yip, that’s how I would describe it). The menu is divided into earth, sea and land. Earth is your vegetable options, sea is fish and land is meat. We enjoyed a few dishes from the menu (I just cannot remember what we had … naughty me!) but I obviously remember what we had for dessert because they were real show stoppers! We had Fiji apple crumble (outstanding!) and coconut rice pudding (superb!).

Thoughts: I cannot wait to visit this restaurant again! The food was exceptional!
