Summer is here and what is better than a delicious ice cream on a hot summers day? Pool side, nogal! Here’s a round-up of all my favourite places to get proper ice cream and the best gelato in Johannesburg. It was a hard job to do but someone had to do it. Smiley face 🙂
Paul’s Homemade Ice Cream
At Paul’s, you will find custard based ice cream which is extremely rich, sweet and so good! What makes Paul’s so delicious is the real flavour components that go into the making of the ice cream. So if you choose roasted banana flavour, you’ll actually find roasted banana inside! The best known flavour though is the Birthday Cake. Which is my favourite! I also love the Vietnamese Coffee with Oreo as well as Madagascan Vanilla. All the flavours just hit the spot!
Wedgewood Emporium
Wedgewood Emporium is not your everyday ice cream. Instead you’ll find unique flavoured nougat ice cream. Yes, thats right – nougat ice cream that is decadently flavoured. From honey macadamia to white chocolate butterscotch ripple and a whole lot more. What makes the experience of popping into Wedgewood Emporium extra exciting, is how beautiful the shop is. It feels like you’re somewhere special thats not in South Africa!

Baglios Gelato
If you have had proper gelato in Italy, you will know what proper gelato tastes like, looks like and feels like on the tongue 😉 Baglios offers a range of proper gelato as well as sorbets and frozen yoghurts using recipes handed down from generation to generation. The highest standard of ingredients is used which is evident in the taste and flavours of the gelato! My favourite is pistachio. Baglios has opened up all over (thank goodness – making it easier to get that gelato fix!). Visit their instagram for more information as well as locations.
Le Parc by Tashas
I like to say Le Parc offers a hybrid of ice cream and gelato (is there such a thing?). The ice cream is extremely gourmet, it is a lot more creamy than gelato, and is so very flavoursome. There are always six different flavours to choose from and you can go all out with toppings such as flaked almonds, 100’s and 1000’s as well as brandy snaps and chocolate pearls. Some of my favourite flavours include Pink Bubblegum, Caramel as well as the Strawberry Cheesecake.
The Panty by Marble
Of course I had to include The Pantry in a best ice cream in Johannesburg post! Here you will get the best soft serve you will ever have in your life. I even did a whole blog post on this soft serve: read here! My favourite flavours include them all 🙂
