Franschhoek is the food and wine capital of South Africa and is home to award winning restaurants and wine farms. With picturesque views of vineyards, mountains and Cape Dutch architecture, it is no wonder that Franschhoek is said to be the most beautiful wine valley in the world.
Nestled in the heart of Franschhoek is The Franschhoek Boutique Hotel. Here are 8 reasons why you must stay at the Franschhoek Boutique Hotel on your next visit to the wine lands:
1. Welcome …
A friendly reception area with most beautiful finishing touches welcomes you. From a cozy fire place and couch, to an assortment of plants and orchards, and friendly staff, it feels like you’ve walked into a home-away-from-home.
2. Location
Located on the main road of Franschhoek and with just a short walk you will find yourself surrounded by boutique stores, fine dining restaurants, art galleries and my favourite chocolate shop Huguenoot Fine Chocolates (their praline filled chocolate is the best!). The Hotel is so central and you’re practically forced to walk the streets and soak in the very best this small quaint town has to offer.
3. Six Boudoir Boutique Rooms
The hotel, as the word boutique suggests, offers guests the chance to stay in one of six rooms. Every room has its own unique theme and is so impeccably designed that each room has its own distinct charm. We stayed in Hennessy which offers smooth leather, wooden finishes and contemporary lines, it felt like we were in ‘Merica. But the views from the room said otherwise.
4. Wine Cooler
I don’t know if its the norm to offer a wine cooler in hotel rooms in Franschhoek, but the Franschhoek Boutique Hotel does! After spending a whole day eating and wine tasting, you will return to your room and find a wine cooler to put all your freshly purchased bottles of wine into. Just this little extra addition to a normal mini bar fridge made me jump with excitement! In addition to this, each room has a fire place, heated flooring and towel rails, a ginormous bath to soak in, a work area and lastly, complimentary wifi.
5. The Franschhoek Wine Tram
The Franschhoek Wine Tram hop-on hop-off tour is one of the best ways to discover the vineyards, scenery and do wine tasting at some of South Africa’s most distinguished wine farms. The tour boards at the Franschhoek Wine Tram ticket office which is conveniently situated right outside the Franschhoek Boutique Hotel. Simply put, you have no excuse to hop-on and hop-off the Tram and enjoy world class wine, all on your doorstep.
6. Breakfast of Champions
Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day, besides for tea time. And with a big selection of hot dishes to choose from, its hard not to choose just one. I opted for the Eggs Onassis as well as the Toasted Oats. Both were so delicious that I spoke highly of them to everyone for days after. Even now, I am craving the Toasted Oats. The fruit bowl which came with yoghurt was the perfect ending.
7. They Go The Extra Mile
The first thing we notice when we walk into a hotel room is if there are any extra special touches to make the guests feel extra special. The Franschhoek Boutique Hotel has exceeded this and definitely go the extra mile for their guests. You will receive four (FOUR!) complimentary bottles of wine, 2 red and 2 white, so everyones tastes are catered for. The selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate is more than what your kitchen at home has. You will find a robe and slippers in your wardrobe. And the shampoo, body wash, hand soap and body lotion in the bathroom is so luxurious, you will be tempted to take some home. If there is anything else you need, just dial 9.
8. The Views
Franschhoek is surrounded by vineyards and mountains as its in a Valley, and the views from each room captures this and are nothing short of breathtakingly beautiful.
DID YOU KNOW? The Hotel is currently running a #SecretSeason Special of R995 pps/night – follow the Hotel on Facebook to see more about this special!

Wow what a post Loren. I love Franschhoek but haven’t been there in years. I think I’ve said it before, you have a gift to stir nostalgia in one’s soul. Beautifully written, but of course I will want to visit! And oh yeah, a visit to Huguenoot Fine Chocolates is an absolute must, it’s usually my highlight of a Western Cape holiday, so glad that you mentioned them xx 🙂
Marné, your comment has meant the world to me! I keep reading it over and over.
