“Lunch in an hour, can it be done?”
This is the question I often ask myself as an attorney who doesn’t know what a lunch break is.
And yes, it can be done.
I have just returned to my desk after having been blown away by the latest offering of the Four Seasons The Westcliff Johannesburg, their Hour of Power business lunch.
We all know how precious a one hour lunch break is and how fast the time goes, so we need to spend them wisely. Four Seasons The Westcliff Johannesburg have launched a 1 hour express business lunch, for this reason. What you get is a sumptuous 4 course lunch served on a single plate. A cold starter, hot starter, main course, dessert, and finally, tea or coffee and a tray of treats. The lunch is quick, uninterrupted, innovative and most of all delicious. This means you can have a productive business meeting, while eating the very best, all in an hour. The business lunch menu changes weekly, so there is no stopping you from returning every week.
What I Ate …
Cold Starter (top right)
Crispy poached free range egg with pea mousseline, nasturtium and mange tout with toasted almonds and aged balsamic vinegar.
Hot Starter (bottom left)
Roma tomato consommé with ricotta dumplings, tortellini and edamame with fresh basil.
Main Course (bottom right)
Herb crusted yellowfin tuna served on curry lentils and braiied leeks.
Dessert (top left)
Lemon tart with citrus crème fraiche, meringue fingers and marinated seasonal berries with mint.Â
The food was absolutely delicious. As you cut into the crispy poached egg, it just oozed, which is what I love. The tortellini in the consommé was exceptional with such flavour. Just one was not enough, thats how good it was. The tuna was perfectly done and full of flavour. The lemon tart was refreshing and a perfect ending.
The meal doesn’t end there. You also get a bowl of treats with your tea or coffee. Chefs specialities of marshmallows, turkish delight and little chocolate nibbles.
The View
The Four Seasons The Westcliff Johannesburg is conveniently located atop an elevated hillside offering panoramic views of the city. You will look down over the city, Johannesburg Zoo (if you’re lucky you can even spot the elephants) as well as the canopy of trees that make Johannesburg beautiful.
In a few weeks time when the Jacaranda trees are in full bloom, the view is absolutely magical. It basically looks like a purple carpet over the city. Pictured below, you can see the Jacarandas are starting to blossom. A delicious lunch, in an hour, with a view of Johannesburg, what more can you ask for in a lunch hour?

What an excellent idea!! I hate eating out for lunch on work days because I always stress about the timing of the food arriving etc. By the time the meal arrives I wolf it down so fast that there is no enjoyment. This way it’s all there and you can pace yourself and relax. A novel idea!
