Sunday lunch is a special occasion for us – we like to go somewhere nice for something wholesome that will leave us feeling happy and satisfied. So a few weeks ago we went to Hussar Grill in Morningside and enjoyed a very special Sunday lunch here.
Hussar Grill is one of our favourite restaurants in Cape Town that we make sure to eat at every time we visit the mother city. So when Hussar Grill finally opened up in Morningside Johannesburg we got so excited.
Hussar Grill
Hussar Grill first opened its doors in 1964. Fast forward 54 years later and there are now 18 grill rooms across South Africa serving up some of South Africa’s best steaks. It is no wonder they are now regarded as one of South Africa’s premier grill rooms thanks to their specialty steaks and award winning wine selection.
What did we eat?
The question on all of your minds is what did we eat? Well we indulged in the most delicious 3 course meal that we are still raving about a few weeks later. The food was exceptional, the service was fantastic and the atmosphere was old school cozy.
Wine of choice:
La Borie Shiraz.
Starter:
Fried crumbed camembert served with cranberry jelly.
Cured springbok loin carpaccio.
Mains:
Lamb shank slowly roasted in a deep red wine jus served with mash potato.
Hussar Carpetbagger which is fillet mignon stuffed with a combination of smoked oysters, cheddar cheese and topped off with a brandy and wholegrain mustard sauce.
Dessert:
Rich and chocolatey chocolate fondant.
From starters to mains, each dish was absolutely delicious. Of course though, the show stopper was the chocolate fondant, but only because I LOVE all things chocolate.
If you are not a meat eater, the big menu has a great selection of non-meat dishes.
So if you are looking for a delicious Sunday lunch spot, pop into your nearest Hussar Grill because you will be left feeling happy and satisfied … And possibly wanting another chocolate fondant pudding, like me 🙂
