The other day I asked on Twitter and Instagram the following question: “What are you watching on Netflix at the mo? (Obvs when you have electricity)” and received a swarm of replies. After reading everyone’s reply, there are definitely 5 shows that are trending right now that everyone is watching. Here they are:
1. DIRTY JOHN
Debra Newell has a perfect life — from the outside — she’s successful, beautiful and lives in Newport Beach, one of California’s most desirable coastal cities. The only thing missing from her life is love, so when she meets the charismatic, handsome and charming Dr. John Meehan, she is swept off her feet in a whirlwind romance. Her daughters, Terra and Veronic, set out to prove that he’s just a conman after they are displeased at the fast-tracked relationship and decide to investigate their mother’s new beau for themselves. As Debra gets drawn deeper into his lies, the psychological manipulation has consequences for the entire family.
2. UMBRELLA ACADEMY
On one day in 1989, 43 infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven are adopted by billionaire industrialist Sir Reginald Hargreeves, who creates the Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world. In their teenage years, though, the family fractures and the team disbands. Fast forward to the present time, when the six surviving members of the clan reunite upon the news of Hargreeves’ passing. They work together to solve a mystery surrounding their father’s death, but divergent personalities and abilities again pull the estranged family apart, and a global apocalypse is another imminent threat. The series is based on a collection of comics and graphic novels created and written by My Chemical Romance lead singer Gerard Way.
3. THE DISAPPEARANCE OF MADELEINE MCCANN
This documentary takes a detailed look at the disappearance of 3-year-old Madeleine McCann, who vanished while on holiday with her family.
4. THE ORDER
When Belgrave University student Jack Morton joins a fabled secret society, the Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose, he is thrust into a world of magic, monsters and intrigue. Out to avenge his mother’s death, he uncovers dark family secrets and lands in an underground battle being waged between werewolves and practitioners of dark magic. Assisting Jack in the fight is Alyssa, a tour guide at Belgrave and fellow member of the Order, which is led by Jack’s estranged father.
5. ISN’T IT ROMANTIC
Natalie (Rebel Wilson) is a New York architect who works hard to get noticed at her job, but is more likely to deliver coffee and bagels than design the city’s next skyscraper. Things go from bad to weird when she gets knocked unconscious during a subway mugging and magically wakes up to find herself in an alternate universe. Always cynical about love, Natalie’s worst nightmare soon comes true when she suddenly discovers that she’s playing the leading lady in a real-life romantic comedy.
I watched and LOVED Isn’t It Romantic. It was such a feel good movie with some very funny parts. I also love Rebel Wilson in it! I am about to start watching Dirty John to see why everyone is talking about this show!
What will you be watching from this list?
PS: Did you know you can download shows off Netflix to watch at a later stage when/if you not connected to WiFi? I am so out of the loop and did not know this was possible until Netflix told me about it on Twitter! This makes loadshedding so much more bearable! 🙂
♥
Hi Lo! I have basically watched all of these, you have good taste 😉
I would also suggest Queer Eye, Tidying up with Marie Kondo and The OA
I really wish we could download episodes to our laptops for loadshedding times! It’s a bit tough watching on your phone with the small screen, but I am totes getting an iPhone X Plus next so hopefully that’ll help 😉
