Where to Have Sundowners in Johannesburg

Food

Johannesburg also has beautiful sunsets, you just need to know where to find them.

Everyone loves a good sunset. That time of the day, when everything starts winding down, a cocktail or two are enjoyed and the sky starts showing off. Although Johannesburg doesn’t have a mountain, nor a beach, we do have a beautiful skyline that is the perfect backdrop for a beautiful sunset.

Chasing the sunset is my favourite. Whether I am on holiday or I am home in Johannesburg, I love to lap up the last bit of rays and savour the awe-inspiring moment.

HERE ARE MY 3 FAVOURITE PLACES TO ENJOY SUNDOWNERS IN JOHANNESBURG

Island Bar at Southern Sun Hyde Park

When le bf and I feel like escaping, this is where we head to, because the view from here is so beautiful. The cocktails are delicious, the sunsets are vivid and on the weekends there is a nice vibe.

Address: 1st Road, Hyde Park, Sandton

Reservations: (011) 341 8080

Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff

This hotel is known for having the best views of the city of Johannesburg. Top this with a refreshing ice cold beverage, some delicious urban bites, a view of the Jacarandas in full bloom and a resident DJ on the decks. This is what an average sundowner session on a Thursday evening looks like for me and my friends.

What? Sundowner DJ Sessions

Where? Flames, Four Seasons The Westcliff, every Thursday from 5:30pm

Address: 67 Jan Smuts Avenue

Reservations: (011) 481 6000

The Palazzo at MonteCasino

Le bf and I recently stayed over at The Palazzo Hotel (you can read more about that here). We enjoyed the most magical sunset from our bedroom window. Ever since our stay over, we’ve been dreaming about going back.

You can still watch the sunset, with a drink in hand, from the terrace of Medeo. By the way, their strawberry daiquiri is the best I’ve ever had 🙂

Reservations:  (011) 510 3000

Address: MonteCasino, Corner William Nicol & Witkoppen Rd
