1. Kleinsky’s
A trip to Cape Town was never complete unless you stopped at the New York-style deli and cafe Kleinsky’s in Sea Point for the best bagel ever. The good news is you can now get Kleinsky’s bagels in Johannesburg! In October 2021, together with Get Bird Coffee (the best coffee fyi!), a Kleinsky’s bagel kiosk was opened in the area of Birdhaven. You’re now able to get really good coffee, the best bagel ever and be on your merry way for a walk in James & Ethel Grey Park. Choose either a pastrami bagel, smoked turkey or even just a bagel with smear and you won’t go wrong!

2. Issy’s Coffee Shop
There is a real hidden gem hiding in the middle of Forest Town called Issy’s Coffee Shop which is situated at The Johannesburg Holocaust & Genocide Centre. Known for their gift shop that sells unique, artisanal and locally sourced goodies. You’ll also find a little restaurant with a menu offering Rwandan Coffee and delicious eats. The smoked salmon bagel may be the best smoked salmon bagel you will ever have. Out of all the smoked salmon bagels, this one is definitely on a league of its own.

3. Bagel Zone
There are two branches of Bagel Zone – one in Benmore and one in Fairmount. Bagel Zone makes authentic boiled bagels with a variety of delicious shmears and fillings. Whether you opt for a traditional smoked salmon bagel, roast veggies and halloumi or a simple egg mayo bagel, you will not be disappointed. Its hard to tell whether the bagels or the filling are the stars of the show, but together it’s just a foodies delight!
