… Is the cutest thing!

Vergenoegd Wine Estate, in Stellenbosch, has a flock over 1 000 Indian Runner Ducks. These ducks play a huge role in the functioning of the wine estate. Instead of using pesticides, the ducks assist as natural pest-control by eating all the snails and bugs on their daily patrols around the estate.

This is a practice that the estate has been refining since 1984. The estate also has a basic research and breeding program which ensures the ducks are kept healthy and happy at all times!

The best part about this duck parade is that it is open to the public, so anyone can stop by this beautiful wine estate and witness something so fascinating. It really is fascinating, trust me! Here are some photos I took when we watched the duck parade this year:

The duck parade happens every day (Monday to Sunday) at:

  • 10:30am
  • 12:30pm
  • 15:30pm

There is so much to do at Vergenoegd, like:

  • wine tasting
  • wine blending experience
  • having a picnic
  • visiting the Saturday market from 9:00am to 15:00pm
  • doing a cellar tour

  1. We do a lot of travelling round the world, but the running of the Indian Runner Ducks @ your winery is still my fondest memory .
    The wine & food also great , but the ducks make you unique 👍 well done .
