My Winter Survival Must-Haves

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO GET YOU THROUGH THIS WINTER

If this past weekend in Johannesburg is a little taster of what winter is going to be like this year, we’re in for an icy one. It is only the start but I already have the heater on next to me. Winter isn’t all that bad though. If you do it the right way, you’ll be sad its over come summer time. What I look forward to most is trial and error’ing different soup recipes, sporting a onesie with my fugly uggs and just getting all round cozy on the couch.

So to make your winter a happy winter and come out of it on the other end unharmed (read: no bouts of flu), here is everything you’ll need.

1. a pair of slippers

What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? You get up and get out of bed. What is worse than walking barefoot into the cold? So, in order for your feet to survive, you need the cosiest pair of the fluffiest slippers. I bought this pair from Cape Union Mart and my feet haven’t stopped thanking me.

2.  coffee and rusks

As you wake up, you boil the kettle and make a cup of coffee. When that 11am slump comes round, you make more coffee. After lunch, you want to warm up, so you make another cup. Just before 5pm strikes, you crave your last cup at the office. With all these cups of delicious coffee, you need a little snack of some sort and what is better than rusks? Rusks and coffee go together like peanut butter and jelly.

Woolworths have now introduced the waffle rusk. And my oh my, they are delicious.
Just in time for winter – thank you Woolworths.

3. a good book (or five)

With winter, comes a lot of reading. Especially for me! I much prefer reading a book over watching a series, but that’s just me. I was gifted a Kindle Paperwhite for my birthday and I love it. It is the best thing ever! I love it more than I love my cellphone … And that’s a lot! 🙂

4. bubble bath

What is a cold winters night if it doesn’t involve a hot bubble bath, a candle and some Cadbury’s Glow? I was sent this oh so glorious wooden bath caddy from the lovely peeps at Cadbury’s and it has most definitely served its purpose. I look so forward to this little bit of ‘me time’.

Similar here but its a silver tray (not wooden) from @home.

5. pyjamas

Hi, my name is Loren and I think you can never have enough pairs of pyjamas.
Even if they make you look like you have just come out of jail.

From onesies, to matching sets, I own every kind and in every colour. Sleep wear is definitely my outfit of choice for days I can’t decide on what to wear. Ha!

Talking about soup (up above), have you seen there is a recipe for delicious homemade chicken soup the Jewish way.

Stay tuned to the blog next week as there will be a recipe for the best Minestrone soup.

  1. You make it sound like winter is only just begun, I feel like a baby with a quivering lip about to burst into tears!

Great list, but I still prefer summer 🙂
