It was our special treat every weekend of lockdown to have a bottle of wine to look forward to. So we may have sipped our way through quite a few bottles. Some of the wonderful wines we drank during lockdown include a delicious Chardonnay, a beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon and an MCC. These are some of the few wines we kept for special occasions but with everyday in lockdown being a special occasion, we thought what better time to enjoy them! With wine sales being open again, I’ll definitely be stocking up on more of these favourites.
De Wetshof Limestone Hill Chardonnay 2017
One of the wine farms we wish we visited while we were exploring the Robertson wine valley, is De Wetshof. We even drove past it but unfortunately we didn’t pop in. There is always next time though!
Limestone Hill is un-wooded with hints of citrus fruit. It is a wonderfully balanced wine and does not have that distinctive heavy oakiness most Chardonnays have. We enjoyed this wine with grilled chicken and vegetables and it was perfect!

Zandvliet Shiraz Rosé
If there was ever a wine that truly sparked romance, it’s this rosé. From the pretty label to the delightful rose gold pink colour and even the tasting notes. The wine displays a distinct bouquet of rose petals, melon, strawberries and raspberries coulis.
In true romance, we lit candles, laid out a blanket in the lounge and we watched a romcom and snipped on this wine. We also enjoyed it with a delicious spaghetti aglio e olio pasta and it was *thumbs up*!

Fat Bastard Cabernet Sauvignon
On a cold winters evening is there anything better than a hearty wholesome red wine? This Cab Sav is a favourite for these kinds of evenings. Think a deep ruby red wine with rich ripe fruit of black currant, blackberries and a hint of chocolate and vanilla.
We enjoyed this wine with braaie’d fillet steak, mushroom sauce and baked potatoes. It was heavenly!

Pierre Jourdan MCC Belle Nectar
A little bit of bubbles can go a long way, right? By saying that I mean the happiness lasts forever! This bottle of Pierre Jourdan MCC Belle Nectar made us very happy! Besides for the bubbles, the pretty pink label itself brings such happiness. This is my new favourite MCC that I want to have a never-ending supply of. I love how deliciously sweet it is with aromas of rose petals, strawberries and Turkish Delights.
We sipped on these bubbles one Sunday afternoon when we had a little something something to celebrate. We sat outside, in the cold, wrapped up in blankets and it felt like were somewhere more special than home.

Alto Rouge
This red wine is an absolute classic and loved by most! It is an iconic blend made up of 31% Cabernet Franc. 28% Shiraz, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 9% Petit Verdot.Â
In the glass the wine is an opaque deep red colour with deep rustic aromas of red berry and cherry fruits. This wine is perfect for any occasion, but we thoroughly enjoyed it with a braai of lamb chops and salad.
