This is the ultimate chic-lit you have to read this summer!
I have just finished reading My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella and while it is still fresh (and funny) in my mind I thought I have to share it with you …
So what is it about?
Katie Brenner has the perfect life: a flat in London, a glamorous job, and a super-cool Instagram feed. Ok, so the real truth is that she rents a tiny room with no space for a wardrobe, has a hideous commute to a lowly admin job, and the life she shares on Instagram isn’t really hers.
But one day her dreams are bound to come true, aren’t they?
Until her not-so perfect life comes crashing down when her mega-successful boss Demeter gives her the sack. All Katie’s hopes are shattered. She has to move home to Somerset, where she helps her dad with his new glamping business.
Then Demeter and her family book in for a holiday, and Katie sees her chance. But should she get revenge on the woman who ruined her dreams? Or try to get her job back? Does Demeter – the woman with everything – have such an idyllic life herself? Maybe they have more in common than it seems.
And what’s wrong with not-so-perfect, anyway?
Why I loved it?
I absolutely thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. I don’t know if it is because this is the first chic lit I have read in ages (this year I was into more thrillers!) or because it was just SO good. When I say SO good, I mean all I wanted to do was just finish it.
Sophie Kinsella is hands-down the funniest author. It is rare to find yourself LOL’ing (Laugh Out Loud’ing) when reading, but her stories and characters are real LOL moments.
One of the reasons I loved this book is how relatable the story line is. We all strive for that perfect life and, now with social media playing a huge role, a perfect Instagram feed. Behind the scenes though it isn’t all perfect.
I also once had a boss similar to Demeter – all the characteristics were the exact same, and, my boss also didn’t know my name! One of the funniest parts in this book is when Kate masterminds the ultimate revenge against Demeter. I also loved the sweet love interest, there’s nothing like a little bit of romance to get the heart swooning.
So if you’re looking for the ultimate beach read this summer, My Not So Perfect Life is the one. It is lighthearted, an easy read and it will have you LOL’ing through summer!
