From experimenting with new recipes to making our favourite classics, most of my spare time is spent in the kitchen. If I’m not in the kitchen, then I’m in front of the TV watching the cooking channel. I love being in the kitchen. Whether it’s cooking or baking or even putting a new gadget to the test, like the new Philips Viva Collection Airfryer TurboStar that recently found its way into my kitchen.
The question you’re probably asking yourself is …
What is the Philips Viva Collection Airfryer TurboStar?Â
It is a hot air cooker that offers a healthier alternative to deep fat frying. With this Airfryer it is now easier to prepare all your favourite foods in a much healthier way, without compromising on the taste. The capabilities of the Airfyer are pretty amazing; not only can you fry your favourite things, but the TurboStar technology also lets you grill, bake and roast, ensuring little to no oil is used. The best part is, with the new technology, you don’t have to warm up the machine before you want to use it. It’s ready to go from the moment you put your ingredients inside!
We’ve had our Philips Airfryer for a while now and I must say, it has definitely been put to use. I think we’ve used it more than we’ve used the toaster and that’s a lot. Ha! Simply because it is just SO easy to use. There’s absolutely no mess, it is easy to clean, and the food is just as tasty as if it were made any other way. One of our favourite meals at home is either chops and chips or steak and chips. I kid you not, this machine has made my life so much more easier when it comes to frying the chips. It takes, and I’m not even joking, 20 minutes. There isn’t oil splattered all over the stove top and I don’t have a million pots to wash.
Before I get carried away telling you all the perks of the machine (there are a lot and we’ll save that for another post!), I want to share with you 3 easy snacks I make with the Airfryer. Because I work from home, I tend to get extra peckish throughout the day and like to have yummy snacks on hand. So without further ado here they are …
Something salty: POTATO CRISPS
You know when that craving for something salty strikes but you don’t know what to have? Well these potato crisps will just hit that spot. And with two ingredients, you won’t get anything easier or healthier. And the best part? They’re ready in 20 minutes, so your afternoon snack is sorted!
All you need is 2 or 3 potatoes and half a tablespoon of olive oil.
Slice the potatoes into very thin slices. I leave the skin on the potatoes to add that rustic look.
Pour the olive oil onto the potato slices and then toss the slices in the olive so they’re all coated.
Place your potato slices into your air fryer at 390 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
The time can vary depending on your fryer so check them around the 20 minute mark.
Once they’re deliciously brown and crispy, remove the chips from the airfryer.
Sprinkle a little salt and enjoy!
Tip: Sprinkle a little salt and vinegar and you have yourself your favourite salt and vinegar crisps.
Something healthy: SWEET POTATO FRIESÂ
Sweet potato fries are the bees knees. Seriously! They are so nutritiously yummy that we could eat them at every meal time!
The health benefits of sweet potatoes are as follows: they are an excellent sort of vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin B6. They are a good source of potassium, dietary fibre, niacin, vitamin B1, B2 and phosphorous. I bet you didn’t know that!
To make sweet potato fries, all you need is 2 large sweet potatoes and a drizzle of olive oil.
Wash the sweet potatoes, peel them and cut into fries. Put into a large bowl, drizzle with the olive oil and then toss well until the fries are all coated in olive oil. Put the fries into the airfryer basket, cook at 180 degrees for 20 minutes.
After 10 minutes, quickly take the basket out, toss the fries around, then put back into airfryer.
Once they’re done, take them and serve piping hot!
How easy and quick to make sweet potato fries?
Something sweet: BANANA CHIPS
When I visit my local supermarket, the one thing I always have to put into my trolley is a packet or two of banana chips. They make for the best afternoon snack and they’re kinda addictive. I tried making my own in the airfryer and although they’re not as crispy as the store bought banana chips, they’re just as delicious. Since making the first batch of banana chips, I have had to make a few more, because the boyfriend is just as obsessed with them as me.
All you need for these are 2 bananas (or more) and a tablespoon of coconut oil. Peel the bananas, slice into thin slices, put into a bowl and then pour the coconut oil. Mix the slices around in the coconut oil, but make sure you’re extra gentle otherwise you’ll find a bowl of banana mash in front of you. Making sure each slice of banana is coated in coconut oil, put them into the airfryer basket and cook at 18o degrees for 20 minutes.
Once they’re brown and crispy, take them out and lay on a plate. Enjoy!
Tip: sprinkle cinnamon over the chips and you’ll have yourself one very yummy snack!
