Breakfast smoothies are a very important part of my weekly routine. I stopped making them for a while but now I am happy to say, I am making them (nearly!) every morning again. You can read why in this blog post. I love adding various fruits and vegetables. This is the best way to get in a whole lot of greens and fresh fruit first thing in the morning. They are so easy to whip up in under 5 minutes and they really do keep my full until lunch time.
This is my basic recipe I follow which really gets the day started. What I love is that you can jazz it up with anything extra you so desire. You can replace the spinach with kale. Or use fresh fruit or frozen fruit for that extra delicious iciness. You can add chia seeds and flax seeds. The peanut butter adds protein and the banana gives it a sweet taste and a creamy texture.
Whip this up tomorrow morning and you won’t be disappointed – not only by the taste but by the nutritional wholesomeness.
Peanut butter and banana green smoothie
Ingredients:
1 to 2 cups baby spinach
1 banana
Small tub of plain yoghurt
1/4 cup oats
1 green apple chopped up
30 ml peanut butter
Combine everything into a high powdered blender – I use my good old pink NutriBullet. Blend for 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, add a few pieces of ice and continue blending for an additional 30 seconds. Serve immediately.
