The summer holidays may be over but that doesn’t stop us from heading to the beach or the pool on the weekends or even after work. When I head to the beach or the pool I take with the biggest bag to store everything except the kitchen sink. You never know what you might need to make a hot day a little more bearable. Along with the essentials, I like to take a bottle of ice water, a tupperware of fresh fruit, like watermelon or mango, as well as some other healthy snacks.
the essentials in my beach bag …
• a towel, obviously
This towel is from Cotton On. I just had to have it when the flamingo wouldn’t take its eyes off me!
• a book or two
Lazy days on the beach and the only thing you do is alternate between people watching and reading a book. I bought this book – The Little Paris Bookshop – as a light read for the beach but I haven’t got round to reading it yet as I am still reading After You by Jojo Moyes. But this will definitely be my next read this summer.
• SPF’s
I keep a variety of SPF’s in my bag. From a very high 50 from Cetaphil to a medium 30 and a lower 20 by Nivea Sun, just because I like to change things up.
• deodorant
I have been using Shield since forever. I find no other deodorant does the job, which is being an antiperspirant that is activated by movement, so the more you move, the more it works. My favourite scene is oxygen fresh!
• vaseline intensive care spray moisturiser
This stuff is amaze and I am onto my 5th bottle already! I keep one in my beach bag to refresh my hot skin. And I keep one in my bathroom to use after a shower to put the moisture back in my sun kissed skin. More info here.
• hair goodies
The sun, pool water or sea salt can do a lot of damage to your hair. I like to spray a bit of Palmers Coconut Oil Strong Roots to the roots and mid lengths of my hair before I go into the sun. It helps form a barrier and protects my hair from the elements.
I keep Invisibobble hair ties in every hand bag and I can’t go anywhere without my Tangle Teezer, more so to the beach.
• flip flops
A long time ago I was walking on the beach sand with my flip flops and next thing the strap broke, I tripped and fell face first into the sand. It was very funny, I will admit. So now I keep a spare pair of flip flops in my bag incase this happens again.
• lip stuff and face cream
As soon as I go into the sun, I lather up my lips with Blistex’s DCT. It is SPF 20 and I know it protects my lips from the sun while still keeping my lips totally moisturised. I also like to keep a little tub Vaseline incase. Vaseline has so many uses that you never know what you will need it for. Then I keep a Palmers FlipBalm for a little puckering up.
The Body Shop’s Vitamin C is my holy grail face cream for the day. It gives my skin a lovely glow which is always welcome in summer and it has SPF 30 in it. It also contains Vitamin C which is amazing for the skin!
Anything I am missing?
Oh yes, sunglasses.
What is the one thing you can’t go to the beach without?
