I Have A Thing For Protea Flowers

Every time I spot a bunch in the shops, at the markets or a single one on my walks, my heart beats a little more than normal. I have just discovered I have a thing for Protea flowers. I can stare at them for hours. They are simply the most beautiful things; they are so eye catching with their vibrant colours and I love how they blossom.

Oh and also because they’re predominately pink!

A Luxurious Nights Stay at The Palazzo

The Palazzo in Monte Casino, Johannesburg, has been described as one of the most beautiful hotels. Words like these are often just thrown around. So when I was given the opportunity to stay at the Palazzo, I wanted to see for myself if these words were a true description. Without keeping you on the edge of your seat until the end of this, I will tell you now that the Palazzo is the most beautiful hotel.

From the moment you enter the hotel, exquisite Italian style architecture welcomes you. As you walk in, you cant help but stop and stare at the beautiful entrance hall that celebrates old world charm. Everything about it gives you the feeling of being in the heart of Tuscany. A chandelier, a huge bouquet of flowers and a table full of welcome drinks and snacks further extends the glamorous welcome.

Arrival

We arrived at the Palazzo on a Saturday just before check-in at 2. Without wasting precious time lounging around, we spent a little while exploring and admiring the grounds, while sipping on our complimentary cocktails. The Palazzo boasts a ginormous swimming pool which is surrounded by the most beautifully manicured Tuscan-styled gardens. The sun loungers by the swimming pool looked so tempting. We gave in to the temptation, lay on the loungers and absorbed the winters sun while watching the glistening bue swimming pool. This was nothing short of bliss!

I could explore the gardens and laze by the pool all day. On a winters day it was perfect, so I can only imagine a glorious summers day pool side.

Our Suite

The clock striked 2, so we finally checked into our suite. And what a suite it was! The room was ultra spacious with beautiful finishes and modern touches. From a lounge area, to a dining room table, a nespresso machine and a separate guest toilet, it was more than we imagined. All of this plus a Victorian king sized bed ready to sink into, it felt like a dream. We were also treated to complimentary macarons and a bottle of wine to devour.

And thats exactly what we did. We opened the wine, snacked on the macaroons and enjoyed the robe life all afternoon until it was time to get ready for dinner.

Dinner

Dinner time came round and off we went to Medeo Restaurant in the Palazzo itself. Medeo is a sublime and sophisticated restaurant that oozes opulence. The restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a menu that incorporates flavours and nuances of the Mediterranean.

We were treated to an incredible 3 course dinner. It was hard to choose off the menu as we were so spoilt for choice. For example, how you can choose just one starter when the options are either cauliflower textures, crisp calamari, springbok tataki, clam and mussel chowder, sweet corn soup or truffle risotto arancini? Well we settled on the crisp calamari and a sweet corn soup.

Dinner was beyond amazing and the service was impeccable.

Without saying too much, I will let my photos do all the talking 🙂

Good Morning

Morning rose and we woke up from our absolutely peaceful slumber in the most comfortable cloud … I mean bed. We made Nespresso’s, opened up the curtains and were graced with a magical view of the magnificent pool area from our windows.

Could life be any more perfect?

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it is my most favourite meal of the day. At the Palazzo we feasted on breakfast fit for a king and queen. The variety of fresh fruit, cereals, mueslis, pastries, cheeses, breads, juices as well as hot breakfast options was mind blowing. I settled on fresh fruit and yoghurt, some pastries with my morning coffee and a plate of eggs benedict done the perfect way.

Looking out of the double volume arched windows onto the magnificent landscaped gardens made for an even more enjoyable breakfast.

Mangwanani Mobile Boutique Spa at The Palazzo

The Palazzo is home to a mobile boutique spa that offers a range of therapeutic wellness treatments. The treatments are available either at one of the four gazebo’s positioned pool side, or in the comfort of your own room.

After breakfast we made our way to the pool area. I enjoyed what could possibly be the best head, neck and shoulder massage I have had in my life. The therapist had me feeling super relaxed and stress free, and it was just what the doctor ordered before check out and heading home.

We had the most luxurious nights stay, topped with the most exquisite food at the Palazzo.

Nearly 3 weeks later and I am still savouring the luxury and relishing in the beauty of what is definitely the most beautiful hotel.

You can visit their website here for more details.

*Thank you to Tsogo Sun for the nights stay. All opinions are my own.

The Best in Nail Care: Seche Products

Give a girl a fresh manicure and she can … well, she can do just about anything really.

We’re always talking nail stuff here on Minkys. I’ve covered the essentials for an at home manicure, whats the best nail strengthener as well as a nail tutorial here and there. So I guess you can say I am a little obsessed with everything to do with painting our paws.

Today’s post is a little different. I am going to be talking about 3 nail care products from Seche. After all, we need strong beautiful nails, and if we want them to look gorgeous we need to use the best. And I have found Seche is the best.

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat

It is no wonder why Seche Vite dry fast top coat is widely acknowledged as the world’s finest top coat. It is specially formulated to penetrate through the nail polish to the base coat forming a single solid coating over the nail plate. The result is strong nails that are resistant to chipping and peeling.

♥ This top coat is magic to my nails! It coats my nails beautifully, hardens and dries within 3 minutes and gives my nails a glossy wet finish. My manicure lasts a whole lot longer also as Seche Vite prevents chipping and peeling. I also love how this top coat helps to even out any small streaks.

Overall, this top coat is the creme de la creme of top coats and nail products. Your polish dries within minutes, your manicure lasts longer than normal and you are just left with a perfect finish. You can use Seche Vite with any nail polish also. What more can you ask for?

R105 from Nail Candi.

Seche Soft Cuticle Softener Therapy

This cuticle softener by Seche a vitamin enriched creamy softener that gently penetrates and softens the cuticles. It contains no caustic ingredients so it is safe to use every day. All you do is apply to the cuticle area, massage in and let dry.

♥ I have been using this cuticle softener nearly every day now since I received it a few weeks ago. If you know me, you will know I suffer from the worst dry cuticles ever. Especially winter time. So being sent this just before winter was absolutely perfect timing! The softener is a creamy, white liquid that absorbs into the skin within a minute. Your hands aren’t left greasy like other cuticle products. I keep this little bottle of goodness on my desk and apply it throughout the day and then get on with my typing away. I love that it doesn’t leave any oily residue on my keyboard 🙂

My cuticles are definitely in much better condition thanks to this softener. So if your cuticles are crying out for some TLC, they’ll definitely receive it from this product!

Also available from Nail Candi, but is currently sold out.

Seche Natural Matte Finish Nail Treatment

This nail treatment contains key ingredients wheat protein, calcium and polyurethane to strengthen weak nails while leaving a healthy natural finish with out a high shine. It can be worn alone leaving a matte finish or as a base coat under polish.

♥ At first I thought this was a topcoat. But after a few applications I discovered its actually a nail treatment that works wonderfully. You apply it to your bare nails and you’re left with a matte finish. So if you want naked nails while a treatment works on them, this is the best. I also used it a few times a base coat which worked wonderfully too.

Also available from Nail Candi, but is currently sold out.

Thank you to the amazing Nail Candi team for the candi drop with these wonderful products. You knew very well I would love them 🙂

Head over to their website over here where you’ll find an online manicure mall.

Tea, Scones and a View at The Plettenberg

Plettenberg Bay is my second home. I have spent nearly every summer holiday in Plett since I was in school. And now that I am no longer in school, I try get to Plett as often as I can throughout the year.

The beauty in Plett is so tranquil, so peaceful and just so beautiful. I don’t need to say more though, you can see for yourself from this post. It is the perfect destination to escape city life and absorb the raw, unspoilt beauty.

One of my favourite hotels is The Plettenberg. Since I can remember we always pay this hotel a visit, be it for breakfast or dinner, tea and scones, or a cocktail or two. Or we would just walk in, head straight to the pool area, admire the views and walk out.

But I am dedicating this post solely to the tea and scones at The Plettenberg.

Tea with a View

They are the best tea and scones in this world. And I kid you not.

They are perfectly crumbly, truly decadent and light and fluffy. With the right ratio of butter to cream to jam, they are melt in your mouth indulgent. Served with a cup of tea, I honestly think the Queen, herself, will give a two thumbs up.

Tea and scones at The Plettenberg is a little bit different to ordinary tea and scones anywhere else. It comes with a view. A view of the mountains in the distance, the ocean in front of you, and the Keurbooms Lagoon to the left.

I can assure you now, once you’ve experienced tea, scones and a view at The Plettenberg, nothing else and nowhere will compare.

Five Favourite Things

1. New Coffee Mug from Superbalist

I collect tea cups and coffee mugs. And I like to use a different one for a different hot drink. My Le Creuset is for coffee because it keeps it warm for longer and it just tastes better in a Le Creuset. And my colourful and fun ones, like this new one from Superbalist, is for tea, especially green tea.

I am not the biggest fan of plain green tea as the taste scares me. But I know that it contains a lot of anti-oxidants which does the world of good to our bodies. So thankfully Five Roses brought out an apple and pear flavoured green tea, which I have grown an addiction to. I love that the apple and pear flavour is so powerful and the green tea taste is barely there, if not there at all. Apple and pear is such a refreshing combination and I find myself craving the taste. I also love how you are still reaping the benefits of green tea.

This new mug I have added to my collection is from Superbalist – how cute is it?

2. Chocolate Cake at The Velvet Cake Co

I clearly have a sweet tooth and there is no denying it. If I could, I would eat a slice of cake for breakfast, lunch and supper. I love cake and the proof is in this post when I was in search of a specific kind of cake! Having said that, while I was in Cape Town recently I had to pay the new Velvet Cake Co  in Loop Street a visit. As I walked into this pretty shop I was taken aback by not only the very colourful and pretty shop but also all the cakes and sweet treats on offer.

This little shop is a feast for the eyes and the mouth. We tasted a slice of the mouth-watering-oozey chocolate cake that is definitely from the movie Matilda. It was moist, decadent, chocolatey and gooey … Which is everything I look for in a slice of chocolate cake. And to this day I am still dreaming of another slice!

To see what other insanely delicious cakes on offer, visit their website here.

3. The Girl On The Train

After reading all the mixed reviews on this book, I was still adamant to read it. So I got myself a copy and haven’t been able to put it down. Its one of those books that sucks you right in from the beginning, especially with its very interesting selection of characters, and you just want to get to the very last page to see what happens.

I am nearly finished the book but I don’t want to say too much here. I’ll leave the exciting review for my Book Club post.

You can read more from my Book Club here.

I am going to find it difficult to find another book like this that just grabs me in. So if you have any great recommendations please let me know!

4. Coconut Oil

I only jumped onto the coconut oil bandwagon recently and I wish I had started using this miracle stuff sooner. I use coconut oil as an intense hair mask, as mentioned before in this post. I have also started adding 2 tablespoons to my hot bubble baths when I treat myself to my weekly pamper nights. I have started applying just a little bit to my face when its feeling a little dry and in need of TLC. And I have also started cooking with it.

If there is something we all need in our beauty cabinets, its a jar of organic virgin coconut oil. Its miracle stuff and treats just about anything and everything!

This 400ml jar is from Dischem for about R89.

5. Water, Water, Water

I am going to admit something but nobody get a fright … I don’t like the taste of water! And because I don’t like the taste of water, I’ll be lucky if I drink half a cup in a day. Yes, I know how bad it is. But this has all changed. A few weeks ago, I was away with my dad and he noticed how I hardly ever reached for a glass of water. After lecturing me just a ‘lil, he then bought me a pink bottle (knowing my favourite colour is pink) hoping it will encourage me to drink water. And it definitely has 🙂 To combat the taste, I have been putting slices of lemon, sometimes some grapefruit and even mint, in my water.

This pink bottle goes everywhere with me now. Filled with water. Of course!

3 Waffle Spots To Try This Weekend

2

If you don’t have anything planned for the weekend and you have a sweet tooth like me, then check out my three favourite spots where you will find the best waffles in Johannesburg, to give you something yummy and fun to do …

Café Bruegel

Café Bruegel is a cute and cozy little coffee shop in Edenvale offering a variety of savoury and sweet Belgian waffles. The savoury combinations include chicken and mushroom, cheesy salami, a burger waffle or even spinach and feta waffles. The sweet combinations include bar-one, dutch apple, banana caramel and banana split waffles.

So the choice is endless and whether you’re more savoury or sweet, you will be in a for a real treat.

The waffles are freshly made upon order. They are crispy, delicious and not overly sweet as there is no sugar in the batter.

With a big selection to choose from, I decided to show off the traditional strawberry and ice-cream special because nothing quite beats this simple combination.

Best thing about Café Bruegel: No sugar in the waffle batter! And their coffee is amazing.

Where: Corner Horwood Street & 8th Avenue, Edenvale, Johannesburg.

Best Waffles - Cafe Breugel - Belgian Waffle

Fourways Farmers Market

Farmers markets are the best place to buy fresh, local produce. They are also a fun way to socialise with your friends while eating good food and soaking up the fresh air. The Fourways Farmers Market is no different, except for the fact that they are home to a Belgian waffle stand. Here you will find the most decadent Belgian waffles and a selection of toppings that will remind you of a sweet childhood. From Nutella, to condensed milk, jelly tots and smarties, or fresh fruit and ice cream, you will want to pile all of this onto your waffle.

I settled on a simple combination. Chocolate sauce, sliced banana, condensed milk and ice cream. Oh and extra chocolate sauce. Yes, my definition of simple is a little different to yours. Ha!

Best thing about Fourways Farmers Market: The vibe!

Where: Corner of William Nicol Drive & Monte Casino Boulevard, Fourways, Johannesburg.

Best Waffles - Fourways Farmers Market - Belgian Waffles

What makes a Belgian Waffle different to a normal waffle?

A Belgian Waffle is golden and crispy on the outside, tender and moist on the inside, and has deep pockets ready to be filled with toppings. In comparison to normal waffles, Belgian Waffles are yeast-based and are made in a waffle iron with a deeper, larger grid pattern.

Milky Lane

If you never had a birthday party at the Milky Lane in your youth then stop reading this, right now! The Milky Lane was my favourite hangout ever … And still is. They used to make eggnogs, which were the B E S T! The boyfriend and I love popping by our nearest Milky Lane on a Sunday afternoon for a little treat. If we’re not having a swirly whirly whizzer, then we opt for a bar one and banana waffle. Simple, delicious and old school! I also ask for extra bar one sauce. It is so good!

Best thing about Milky Lane: Feeling like a kid in a candy store, again! The menu is huge with such an exciting selection of sweet treats!

Where: Most shopping centres.

Best Waffles - Milky Lane

Fresh Flowers and Fruit at the Oranjezicht City Farm

The Oranjezicht City Farm is a local food market in Granger Bay, Cape Town. To describe this market in a few words, it is a haven for all foodies alike. And I wish we had something even half as amazing in Johannesburg!

First of all, the market is centred around the freshest produce from local farmers; and secondly you will find artisanal food producers offering the very best. This means you will feast your eyes on an array of fresh fruit and vegetables, homemade breads and cheeses, olive oils and honey, and finally cured meats or fresh fish. With such a selection, there is no excuse for you not to do your weekly shopping. If groceries aren’t your thing and you’re on the hungry side, you can either opt for breakfast or lunches from one of the many vendors offering such. You can finish off your meal with a cup of coffee and sweet treats, like ice cream, cakes and pastries.

So now you know why the market is a foodies haven, it is a shopping mecca for both raw and cooked food options.

With such a selection, what caught my eye on my first visit was the variety of fresh flowers and fruit.

The market is open on Saturdays between 9am and 2pm.

Totally Crazy for Coconut Oil and Coconut Hair Products

1

Coconut Oil

I recently changed my hair care routine and let me fill you in on a secret …

I am totally crazy for coconut hair care products!

For the last few months or so I noticed my hair was in need of a bit of oomph. My hair was getting too used to the same shampoo and conditioner I had been using. I also noticed that with all the traveling my hair was getting a bit dry and lifeless, so I needed to mix things up a bit.

My hair is super long and I try my hardest to ensure I look after it properly. I try use only salon quality hair products, so none of the mass produced stuff. I put this treatment in my hair nearly every week and I try not use too much heat on my hair either, but if I do I use a heat protectant spray.

So here is my new hair care routine:

Coconut Oil, Coconut Oil, Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is the bees knees for your hair and scalp. You will only notice an improvement after a few applications, but you have to be consistent with your applications. If you have tried it once or twice without noticing an improvement and thought it’s an old wives tail, I have good news – it isn’t!

So what I have been doing for the past six months or so is a I have been applying coconut oil to my scalp as well as to the length of my hair as often as I can. I try aim for twice a week but if not then once a week is also fine. When I know I am going to be home the whole day I apply it in the morning and let it soak until the evening when I have a shower and shampoo and condition like normal. That means I let it soak and absorb for at least a good few hours.

OGX Weightless Hydration Coconut Water Shampoo and Conditioner

As I said before I try stick to salon quality hair products. Unless I have read only amazing things about store bought products, will I try them out. But they have to have an amazing write up before I even consider them. Organix Weightless Hydration Coconut Water Shampoo and Conditioner is from Dischem … Surprise Surprise! And this range is amazing.

The shampoo is so lightweight and has a thick gel-like consistency. Just a small amount lathers and foams up and does a wonderful job removing the coconut oil and dirt from my hair. I like to shampoo twice (as one should) just to make sure all the excess oil and dirt is washed out. But two washes doesn’t leave my hair feeling stripped or dry. Coconut oil is hard to wash out, believe me, I know. I once had to shampoo 4 times to get it out when I was using a brand of shampoo that I rather not mention here.

I then apply the conditioner just to the ends of my hair, as this part is always thirsty for conditioner. I don’t apply any to my scalp as conditioner is known to weigh your hair down. The conditioner is rich and creamy but not over oily at the same time.

Both the shampoo and conditioner contain coconut oil and coconut water, which is what my hair just loves. The scent is absolutely divine too. But I don’t use a shampoo and conditioner based on its scent alone. I trust a shampoo and conditioner on the result it gives!

Result

After letting my hair and scalp soak in the coconut oil and then washing it out with the OGX shampoo and applying the conditioner after, my hair is so soft, so shiny, so nourished, so smooth and so bouncy.

If you don’t believe me, you can see the picture below.

Coconut Oil

Benefits of Coconut Oil for your Hair

♥ Stimulates hair growth by getting deep into its follicles.

♥ Promotes a healthy scalp by fighting against dandruff and other problems.

♥ Adds shine and softness to the hair.

♥ Prevents hair breakage and split ends, contributing to a healthy hair length.

♥ Rich in anti-microbial properties, lauric acid, and medium-chain fatty acids that strengthen hair, condition the scalp, and help to regrow hair.

It is important to use organic virgin coconut oil, which means it is still in its natural unrefined state and it hasn’t been stripped of any of its properties.

So that is the secret to my current hair care routine. And I wasn’t paid for this post, incase you’re wondering 😉

Other Uses of Coconut Oil

Coconut oil can also use be used as a cuticle conditioner, makeup remover, body moisturiser and a bath oil.

The OGX Shampoo and Conditioner is available at all Dischem stores.

Coconut oil can be bought at Dischem also, or health shops, or even your supermarket.

Have you used coconut oil before?

♥

P.S. As I type this, I am sitting on my laptop with my hair drenched in coconut oil and I am wearing a shower cap. Just like my Granny used to, except she had rollers in her hair.

The Little Town of Darling: The Museum, Mystery Trail and Darling Brew

hello, Darling.

There is a charming little town about an hours drive from Cape Town that seems to take you a million miles away. A small town where everyone knows your name, neighbours from one to the other are friends and every day feels like a laid-back Sunday. This little town lies between the hills, dairy farms and the vineyards and is home to the gorgeous wildflowers.

This little town is called Darling.

As small as it is, Darling has a lot to offer.

The town is abundantly rich in entertainment, restaurants, bistros and wine farms.

The town has its own theatre, by the famous satirist Pieter Dirk Uys, called Evita se Perron. As well as a quaint little toffee factory called Darling Toffee. There is a Museum, a Mystery Trail, and a microbrewery called Darling Brew.

On a recent trip up the West Coast and after having stayed the night at !Khwa Ttu, we woke up early ready to venture through the little town of Darling and savour its offerings. We started off at the Darling Museum, did the Mystery Trail and ended off with a well deserved beer tasting at Darling Brew.

Darling Museum

A visit to Darling is not complete without a trip to Darling Museum.

Darling is very rich in history and most of all, the history of butter making. From antique furniture and clothing to the interior of a school room and what life was like back in the day, you will be transported back to at least two centuries ago. There is also a unique butter museum filled with wooden butter churns, butter washes and other historical equipment and interesting information.

The museum was actually founded by a group of local farmers’ wives in 1978 whose aim was to preserve the butter making history of Darling. And, this they did.

As a foodie, who loves an extra thick layer of butter on her bread … And loves to cook with butter, this was the highlight of my meandering through the museum. It was interesting to learn how the making of butter evolved over time. So now when I spread the butter on my bread, I appreciate the creamy deliciousness a lot more!

If you are a foodie reading this, I suggest you put Darling Museum as the top of your culinary bucket list. You can thank me later 😉

The Mystery Trail

The Mystery Trail is the perfect excuse to take a stroll through the streets of Darling. It is all about exploring fragments of a mysterious story that still exists – you can read more about that here.

This is how it works: grab your friends and family and meet at the Darling Museum. Bring with a pen, paper and a GPS (or an old school compass). You will be provided with a map. The first clue of the Mystery Trail is in the Museum … Once you find this, you will be given the second clue. And so on and so on. There are 10 clues in total.

Allow yourself about two hours to explore and get lost. And also allow yourself a little bit of bickering along the way. Someone will want to go left, you will want to go right and the GPS will say straight. But don’t worry, its all part of the fun! And it is a lot of fun, let me tell you!

Without giving away too much, pictured below is one of the clues we found.

We had so much fun but were so parched that I was more-so thankful our next stop was Darling Brew.

Darling Brew

Darling is home to a microbrewery, Darling Brew.

What started out as just an idea by a husband and wife duo, Philippa and Kevin Wood, in 2007, has now become an award winning microbrewery. And as a result, Darling Brew is now available across the whole country, thanks to more and more fans loving this craft beer.

Darling Brew is not like you average craft beer. It is full of flavour, high quality ingredients are used and it undergoes a slow brewing process. The result is each beer has unique and different characteristics.

There are four unique flavours, the Slow Beer, Native Ale, Bone Crusher and Black Mist. The beers also have unique but peculiar names. Like Blood Serpent, Gypsy Mask, Desert Dragon, and Rogue Pony, I don’t blame you for raising an eyebrow. The beers are named after nature and animals that inspire both Philipa and Kevin.

Darling Brew also offers a Tasteroom that overlooks the microbrewery. So while you’re tasting your favourite brew,  you can watch the brewing process. Together with your beer tasting you can also choose either a light meal option off the menu, or opt for the braai menu and enjoy some delicious meat! The tasting room is a wonderful opportunity to pair good food with good beer, and ensures an exciting experience.

As we walked into Darling Brew we were struck by the electric atmosphere in the air. Our senses also came along for the ride, as the powerful smell of beer took over our nostrils and the beer tastings took over out taste buds.

We were also taken on a tour of the microbrewery by Philippa herself. She oozes passion, drive and a zest for life … And craft beer. And the result: Darling Brew.

After tasting nearly all of the beers and munching a delicious cheese and meat platter, we ended up buying a few cases of the beers we liked the flavours of.

As I sit here typing, I am sipping on a Rouge Pony.

Did you know?

First Impressions

Last week a cute little box landed on my beauty desk. I was so intrigued to open it and see what was inside because it was certainly like no other. The packaging was sleek, minimal but enticing. As I opened it I unpacked the following 3INA products: a highlighter, an eyeshadow, a lipgloss, nail polish, a shiny lipstick and a pen eyeliner. A little taste of whats to come from 3INA. I also noticed the products are made in Italy (for this fact alone, I LOVE!), and the pen eyeliner is made in Germany.

3ina South Africa

The Highlighter

This special powder highlighter lights up your face and gives high definition and a soft, silk final pay off.

♥ The highlighter has a perfect shimmer to it, that is not overpowering. It gives off a soft finish that you can build up easily if you are wanting a more dramatic finish.

The Eyeshadow (Shade 127)

This unique eyeshadow gives an intense, vibrant hue to your eyes.

♥ The eyeshadow is bold, very bold! And this is exactly what 3INA is all about. Bold makeup!

The Lip Gloss (Shade 109)

This lip gloss provides a bright, pigmented finish and glossy, wet look effect.

♥ I love that it is a perfectly subtle pink shade. I also love a lip gloss with a glossy finish.

The Nail Polish (Shade 121)

♥ The shade of the nail polish matches the eye shadow. So it is vibrant, bold and blue 🙂 I will be giving it a try this winter, and will report back. I do love the boldness of the shade.

The Shiny Lipstick (Shade 211)

An easy to apply lipstick designed to deliver a high gloss shine.

♥ I honestly love this shade. It is a gorgeous berry colour and is honestly perfect for winter or even summer when you craving a bold look. The finish is very shiny, which allows for your lips to feel moisturised all the time, which is a winner for me.

The Pen Eyeliner

An easy to use liquid eyeliner than ensures an intense and long lasting colour whilst enhancing the natural shape of your eyes. Bonus: waterproof!

♥ I liked that the tip is super fine ensuring steady application. As soon as I have tried this, I will report back 🙂

3ina South Africa

So by the looks of all of the above, the beauty junkies of South Africa are in for a real brave and bold treat!

5 Reasons Why You Need To Visit !Khwa Ttu

0

!Khwa Ttu

No I haven’t made a spelling mistake, nor have I made a typo.

!Khwa Ttu is a San name for a San culture and education centre in Yzerfontein, on the West Coast.
The centre is dedicated to celebrating the San culture and history.

It felt like the coldest day on the West Coast when we arrived at !Khwa Ttu and received the warmest welcome from the cheery and friendly staff to the hot, crackling fires set up for us in our room. It was just what the coldest day called for. This plus a hot chocolate at the restaurant and we were nice and toasty and ready for the adventurous day and cozy nights stay ahead of us.

Upon arrival, we were immediately wowed by the eco-friendly establishment and the natural state of all the finishing touches.

!Khwa Ttu is a magical place that everyone needs to visit at least once in their lifetime. The sounds, the sights and most of all the history titillate all the senses! It is also just enough distance from the city of Cape Town to enjoy one of the clearest night skies I have ever seen. Truly magical!

So here are 5 reasons why everyone needs to visit !Khwa Ttu

1. Discover and Learn

The centre gives visitors the opportunity to discover and learn everything about San culture (previously known as Bushmen). This is done is by a San Guided Tour, either by foot, on a bicycle or by tractor.

Before hopping onto the tractor you are introduced to the different groups of San and their different languages. Part of this is learning how to make the clicking sounds by twisting, turning, rolling and emphasising the movements of your tongue.

After driving through the fynbos and spotting a few zebras along the way, you are dropped off at a traditional San Village replica. The guides explain and demonstrate all the nitty gritty details. From how the San made fires without firelighters, to how bows and arrows actually work, and lastly how love-bows symbolised you liked a girl (you are sweet on her).

What I loved most about the whole tour was all the talking, exploring and most of all interacting with each of the tour guides that came with us. Each guide has a story to tell and an experience to share. And every question we asked was answered passionately.

2. Escape and Relax

!Khwa Ttu is situated on the top of the hill with panoramic views of the Atlantic ocean and Table Mountain if the weather is clear enough. Together with these spectacular views you will find an abundance of bird life, game animals and fynbos.

This seems like utter bliss; doesn’t it?

You can escape the bustling city life and enter a world of total bliss by staying the night in one of the guest houses or tented camps.

We stayed in the guest house, and if I have to use one word to describe it, it was truly “magical“.

The guest house comes fully equipped with 2 units. Each unit has an en-suite bathroom, a cozy lounge area with a fire place and a fully equipped kitchen. Because the guest house is up on the hillside, it comes with complimentary views and most of all a magical sunrise to wake up too.

3. Wine and Dine

While you are out in the bush the only kind of restaurant you want to wine and dine in is a rustic one. And this is the exact restaurant at !Khwa Ttu. The interior is made of all natural materials, such as wood and stone, and the attention to detail was carefully considered. The menu offers a variety of dishes all using locally sourced ingredients including a selection of meat dishes using free range game reared on the farmland. And you will also find a wide selection of good locally produced wines.

As rustic as the restaurant is, we were spoilt for choice with the modern day varieties on the menu. So we opted for a greek salad, calamari and rice and spaghetti and meatballs. Each dish was tasty, delicious and most of all wholesome!

4. You, Me and Everyone

The San people have been roaming the southern and central regions of Africa for thousands of years. They were the first inhabitants of Southern Africa.

So it is for this fact alone that it is yours and my duty, as a South African, to visit !Khwa Ttu. We need to explore their culture, invest in the knowledge and pass it down to the next generation. And !Khwa Ttu is the exact place for this. It is a place for everyone, young and old, and most of all South Africans, and non-South Africans alike.

I am humbled to have had experienced the very best !Khwa Ttu has to offer and more. I honestly wish (from the bottom of my heart) that every South African reading this visits !Khwa Ttu to experience the same magic and be able to share the same stories.

5. Near and Far

!Khwa Ttu is a quick one hours drive from Cape Town on the R27 West Coast Road. As near as it is to Cape Town, you enter a world that is a million miles away. A world where it is just you, the birds and the stars at night. What more can you ask for?

You will stay in an old farm building that has been beautifully restored. You will eat in a restaurant that was an old homestead and barn. You will walk on land that has been recovered to its natural state. You will see zebra and other game grazing on the grass. And you will wake up to the most exquisite sunrise.

I didn’t know a place like this existed, until I visited !Khwa Ttu.

The San Guided Tour was insightful, our nights stay was heavenly, the food was wholesome and delicious, and the staff were interactive and passionate. All of this made the whole experience absolutely warm and magical.

Thank you !Khwa Ttu as well as the West Coast Way team for everything.
